‘Dear John' halts ‘Avatar' at box office

The romantic military love story ‘Dear John,’ has opened up in much higher numbers than what was expected. It has pulled in $13.8 millions on the opening night, heading it on course to bring in $32 millions over the weekend.

This would beat the expected pull of ‘Avatar’ of $23 millions for this weekend, making it the first film to halt ‘Avatar’ off their seven week No.1 spot. If they open at $32 millions at weekend, then it will beat the previous record held by ‘Hannah Montana’ at $31.1millions.
