‘Bolo Raam' is average

Director: Rakesh Chaturvedi

Starring: Rishi Butani , Padmini Kolhapuri , Om Puri , Naseeruddin Shah , Govind Namdev , Disha Pandey , Krishan Khatra

OyeG Review

Bolo Raam is engaging in parts but is flawed by an inconsistent script.

The film starts off with a murder of a mother (Archana played by Padmini Kolhapuri) and the son (Raam Kaushik played by Rishi Butani) is besides her with a knife in his hand and full of blood on his face and shirt. It makes him the prime suspect and is arrested by the police. However, he his deeply shocked and remains mum. Meanwhile, the police start investigating the case. The investigating officer Indrajeet Singh Rathi (Om Puri) starts interrogating all the people associated with the case in pursuit of the truth.

Direction

Rakesh Chaturvedi included too many characters and angles in the story which makes you lose attention. The lead character is deliberately shown as short tempered to add suspicion. The songs are a major turn off and are totally unnecessary. The argument between Sajid Khan and Indrajeet over Indrajeet harassing him and his family because he is a Muslim seems very forceful.

Script/Dialogues

The film switches between the past and the present while the interrogation happens. The murder mystery had the potential of being a riveting thriller. Alas, the story just keeps hovering without getting anywhere. Discarding a few scenes could have helped. The climax is credible and thrilling.

Performances

Debutant Rishi Butani is very raw and needs a lot of improvement. Ditto for Disha Pandey. The director tries to divert the focus from the protagonist’s bad acting by focusing on his toned physique but it doesn’t work that way. We have seen Govind Namdev act in the same way in many films before. Padmini Kolhapuri is just okay in the small role that she plays. Om Puri is dependable and credible as always while Naseeruddin Shah is there only in a few scenes.

OyeG Verdict

The phrase ‘too many cooks spoil the broth' holds true for this film. The cooks are the unnecessary elements while the broth is the film.

Rishi is strictly ok dancer so why put the unnecessary dance song to glorify his mediocre dancing skills? And he looks old...dont think he is 20something. And he cant act for his life. The girl is fit for tv not movies. Give me Ranbir or Shahid any day over this 'wannabe dude' - as Rishi is neither cute like them, nor can act or dance like them.
